Over the years, students of prophecy have speculated the meaning of the first four seals in Revelation, the so called four horsemen of the apocalypse. I for one try to do everything I can to let the Bible answer it’s own questions but so far I have found very little in the Bible to help identify who these figures are. As a result, I’m going to give you my perspective of what the four horsemen represent based on the limited information the Bible gives us and what I see happening around us today and historically.
In short, I believe it is very possible that our president or possibly some future American president could represent the rider of the black horse ie the rider associated with the third seal.
As I discussed in a previous article here, I believe it is virtually certain that the seals, trumpets and bowls in Revelation are providing three different angles of prophecy and as such can be viewed more or less independently. The Sixth Seal represents the Day of The Lord. There is a veritable mountain of scriptural support for this conclusion. So, what do the first four seals represent? The prophet Zechariah gives us a clue.
Zechariah 6:1-5 (NKJV Strong’s Bible)
Vision of the Four Chariots
1 Then I turned and raised my eyes and looked, and behold, four chariots were coming from between two mountains, and the mountains were mountains of bronze. 2 With the first chariot were red horses, with the second chariot black horses, 3 with the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot dappled horses—strong steeds. 4 Then I answered and said to the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?” 5 And the angel answered and said to me, “These are four spirits of heaven, who go out from their station before the Lord of all the earth.
One of my commentaries has this to say about the chariots.
“(The Preacher’s Commentary – Micah-Malachi) In the eighth vision “Four chariots” (v. 1) are immediately presented to us, not just the four horses seen in the first vision. These are obviously war chariots, so the intention to dispense judgment is clear from the start of the vision.”
Another commentator says basically the same thing also relating these horses to the four horses in Revelation 6.
“(Expositor’s Bible Commentary) The chariots seem to represent angelic spirits (cf. v.5), while the variegated horses evidently signify divine judgments on the earth (cf. v.8). Unger (pp. 102-3), comparing Revelation 6:1-8, suggests that the red horses symbolize war and bloodshed; the black horses, famine and death; the white horses, victory and triumph; and the dappled horses, death by plagues and other judgments. White horses (cf. also 1:8) are clearly associated with vengeance and triumph in Revelation 19:11, 14. The fact that there are four chariots may indicate that the angelic spirits are ready to embark on universal judgments”
The Bible says that these horsed chariots are spirits and the commentators suggest they exist to dispense judgement. Keep this context in mind as we go through the first four seals.
First Seal – The Rider of on the White Horse is Released
Revelation 6:1-8 (NKJV Strong’s Bible)
1 Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” 2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
I believe it is possible that the white horse represents the first severely persecutory power to rise after Jesus day. This power would be Catholicism and rose to power in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. The Vatican didn’t possess a vast army but they did possess people’s hearts and minds and wielded power over kings with their influence over the masses. The Catholic Church was an extremely corrupt organization in that day and its corruption spawned the Protestant reformation. The Vatican response was to persecute Christians who left Catholicism and estimates of the number of Christians murdered range from a few million to over 100 million. The church did not possess an army sufficient to carry out such large scale persecution so they manipulated governments to carry out their orders. In this light, I believe the church possessed a bow (with no arrows, as indicated in the prophecy), and used the arrows of the state to perpetrate violence. Notice also, that the rider in the prophecy is given a crown. Originally, popes did not have crowns but a crown was given centuries ago and the pope has had a crown ever since. Also, notice in the prophecy the horse is white. The pope does not ride a horse today but he does travel in a white car, white helicopter and a white jet wearing a white outfit. There is no way I can say with certainty that Catholicism represents the white horse power but it does fit well.
Second Seal – The Rider on the Red Horse is Released
Revelation 6:3-4 (NKJV Strong’s Bible)
3 When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come and see.” 4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.
I believe the red horse represents a second major persecutorial spirit that has entered the world and that spirit is communism whose symbolic color is red as can be seen in the flags of communist nations. The rider of the red horse takes peace away from the earth and causes the killing of one another. Communism almost always comes through violent revolution where people are killing each other by the thousands or millions and it is a force that has taken peace from the earth. Additionally, 10′s of millions of Christians have been murdered at the hands of communist regimes. The communist nations of Red China, Red Russia, Red Romania, et cetera are nations conquered by revolution at the cost of many lives. Everywhere communism raises its ugly head, war breaks out. Korea, Berlin, the Congo, Cuba, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Nicaragua are just a few of the many examples. Communists, as the scripture says, even kill one another (Revelation 6:4).
Third Seal – The Rider on the Black Horse is Released
Revelation 6:5-6 (NKJV Strong’s Bible)
5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.”
I want to spend a little time on this one as it is the primary subject of the article. The December 9, 1966 issue of Time Magazine, page 34, reported that a new government had recently been formed in Germany between the Socialist and the Christian Democratic (capitalist) parties. A comment made concerning the union said, “… a grand coalition of the…Christian Democrats and the Social Democrats, that have bitterly fought each other for years…(has been made). A union of black and red, it was a marriage of convenience — but a stunning match nonetheless”. The black power is capitalism.
Capitalistic nations thrive on commerce and enjoy the highest standard of living. I believe the scales in the prophecy are symbolic of this spirit of capitalism. The most capitalistic nation in the world is America and is home of some the worlds most powerful stock and commodity exchanges. If you visit one of the trading floors you will see people calling out stocks or commodities offering to buy or sell for a certain price. Is this what the passage “…A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius…” refers to? I believe it is likely that the black horse is the persecutorial spirit of capitalism. Persecutorial, you may ask? Good question. We may be on the leading edge of the persecutorial nature of this spirit coming to life. See the below picture tweeted from whitehouse.gov.
Ok. Maybe it was a slow day in the world and ISIS hadn’t beheaded too many people and information on the ash heap that is our southern border was being effectively suppressed and the White House had time to just have some fun. Maybe. However, this picture has many elements straight out of Revelation 6. Look at the crown in the presidents lap. Look at the bow in the foreground with no arrows. Look at the colors of the dragons eggs…white (white horse), green (green horse – the fourth horse still to be discussed) and red (the red horse). Why isn’t there a black egg? Could it be because our president sitting on the black throne is the rider of the black horse? If I could show that our president has knowledge of paganism and the occult, this might be more believable. Hold on to your hats!
Prior to his first election, Barak Obama did something no other presidential candidate had ever done. He went abroad and gave a foreign policy speech where he mesmerized many. He first visited the Pergamum Museum which houses the alter of Zeus referenced in Revelation as Satans throne and shortly after faced the museum and delivered his foreign policy speech. After he won the democratic nomination, he delivered his acceptance speech from Denver Bronco Stadium standing in front of a replica of the alter of Zeus. What are the chances this is coincidence. President Obama made his first trip to Jerusalem on March 21, 2013 shortly after the historic event of Pope Benedict resigning from office and lightening subsequently striking the Vatican. This day was the date of the vernal equinox, a major pagan holiday. About once every 100 years, the vernal equinox lines up with another major date…Nisan 10 on the Hebrew calendar. This confluence happened on March 21, 2013. So what is so special about Nisan 10? It is the day Jesus entered Jerusalem! President Obama visits Jerusalem for the first time on the same date Jesus visits Jerusalem except in the case of the president, his visit also coincides with a major pagan celebration day! This is a man who has dark spiritual knowledge and I believe he is evidencing that in the White House picture above.
Fourth Seal – The Rider on the Pale Horse is Released
Revelation 6:7-8 (NKJV Strong’s Bible)
7 When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” 8 So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.
The Greek word for ‘pale’ in verse 7 is chloros which literally translates to ‘green’. It is used in other places in the Bible to describe leaves or grass. Green is also the color of Islam. The flag of Saudi Arabia is green and according to Saudi government website the flag is green because green is the color of Islam. On the Temple Mount, the major Islamic sections of the site are fenced off in green and temples have green doors. Various Islamic terrorist organizations adorn themselves in green. Green is the color of Islam! The final great empire will be a caliphate. See my article here for more detail.
The final great tribulation of the saints will be at the hands of Islamists consistent with the fourth seal of Revelation! Notice that the rider of the green horse will rule one fourth of mankind. The caliphate I outlined in the article I linked to is home to approximately one fourth of the population. Notice also that the rider kills in a variety of ways including sword, famine and pestilence. The Islamic nations are virtually the world capital of these types of plagues. Finally notice that death and hades follows him. The Islamic nations have a culture of death unmatched anywhere in the world with people who even aspire to be suicide bombers. Sadly, the reward for their martyrdom is hell exactly as spelled out in the prophecy.
Summary
I believe the first four seals of Revelation 6 represent the release of persecutorial spirits of judgement and the rider of the black horse represents the spirit released on America. I believe that it is possible that the picture released by the White House above was released so that the discerning would understand the times we are living in and realize that the rider of the black horse is riding through America. This will set the stage for the final worldwide persecution at the hands of Islam.
